The Birmingham Psychology GroupIf your child struggled with reading, math, attention, frustration, or schoolwork this year, summer is the best time to find out what's really going on — before classes start again in August.
You may have tried tutoring, extra help, or more practice — but if the same struggles keep coming back, the real issue may not have been identified yet.
Speak with our intake coordinator to see whether a $230 intake with a licensed psychologist is the right next step. No pressure and no commitment.
These are common signs that a child may need more than tutoring, extra practice, or "trying harder."
Struggles with reading fluency, comprehension, writing, or spelling
Falls behind in math or has trouble with basic concepts
Gets frustrated, shuts down, or avoids schoolwork
Takes much longer than expected to finish homework or assignments
Tutoring helps for a little while, but the same problems keep coming back
Clearly smart, but can't seem to show it in schoolwork
If several of these sound familiar, the next step may not be more guessing. It may be understanding what is actually causing the struggle before the new school year begins.
Many children who struggle in school are working hard and trying their best. But when reading, math, attention, writing, or homework problems keep coming back, more practice may not be enough.
The right support starts with understanding what is actually causing the struggle. That's what an intake and, when appropriate, tailored testing can help clarify.
"Once we understood why our son was struggling, everything changed. For the first time, we knew how to help him the right way."
— Parent of an 8-year-old, Hoover, AL
A simple, low-pressure process to help you understand the right next step for your child.
Step 01
Speak with our intake coordinator about what you've been noticing at home or school. We'll gather basic information, explain how the process works, and help determine whether an intake is the right next step.
Step 02
Most families begin with a one-on-one intake with a licensed psychologist. This session focuses on your child's history, current struggles, and whether further evaluation may be helpful.
Not every child needs testing. If testing is recommended, we'll explain what areas need to be evaluated and tailor the plan to your child's specific concerns.
Step 03
If testing is recommended, we'll tailor the process to your child's specific needs rather than giving every child the same set of tests. Your child will complete testing in a supportive, child-friendly setting, and you'll receive a clear written report with findings and practical recommendations you can use with schools, pediatricians, or other providers.
Good Faith Estimate
Before any testing begins, you'll receive a written estimate of total costs. No surprises, no hidden fees, and no obligation to move forward until you understand the next step.
☀ Many schools across Homewood, Mountain Brook, Vestavia, Hoover, Inverness, and surrounding communities start back in early to mid-August. Starting now gives your family more time to complete the intake, decide whether testing is needed, and get clear next steps before the new school year begins.
Fill out the short form and we'll reach out within one business day to learn more about your child's struggles and explain whether an intake may be the right next step.
